This folio in the collection brings to life a striking Jain story. It shows Candanā, the head of Mahāvīra’s community of nuns, resting beside her disciple Mṛgāvatī. In the deep darkness of night, a snake silently passes by. Seeing the danger, Mṛgāvatī gently lifts her teacher’s arm so the creature can move away unharmed.
