University of Mumbai: Jainology Annual Seminar

Mumbai University has established a Jain Endowment called ”JAIN ACADEMY EDUCATION & RESEARCH CENTRE” in the Department of Philosophy since 1996 and it runs courses in Jainology where more than 2000 students have participated. It is also engaged in research and publications. This year we have a total 225 students, a record number, studying Jain philosophy in Mumbai University.

An Annual Seminar has been planned our for 6th January 2013 in the morning from 9:30 am to 01:00 pm at Convocation Hall of University of Mumbai, Fort. We expect about 350 people, mainly University students and specially invited Jain scholars and dignitaries. The seminar will be followed by lunch.

There will be four eminent speakers each allocated 45 mins to speak on their specific fields.

The four topics are:

1. “Jain Ethics in Business”
by Shri Vallabhji Bhansali, a leading Investment Banker, an Investor and a Venture capitalist

2. “Jain Sahitya no Rasaswad”
by Dr Jitendra Shah, Director, L D Institute of Indology, Ahemdabad

3. “Indology and its huge untapped potential”
by Mr Herman Kuhn, a leading German Jain Scholar

4. “Jain Samaj ko Disha Nirdesh”
by Mr Shantilal Kawar, an Industrialist & Social worker

The concluding remarks will be by Professor Dr Shubhada Joshi, HOD, Dept of Philosophy, Mumbai University.
