Commemoration of Shant Sudharas

A program to commemorate the great concept depicted in ‘Shant Sudharas’  composed by Mahamahopadhyaya Shri Vinay Vijayji Maharaj was held at the Derasar of Hathibhai ni Wadi Ahmedabad on Saturday 24th May 2015.

This function was organised jointly by the Institute of Jainology and Shashan Samrat Bhavan. Shree Gauravbhai Sheth  on behalf of Hathisinh Kesrisinh Trust welcomed everyone to this commemorative event. Naliniben Desai then gave a brief introduction to the Institute of Jainology.

Trustee of the Institute, Shree Kumarpal Desai, a renowned Jain scholar and thinker  said of Shant Sudharas that it was  an important scriptural composition that could give  everlasting peace, equanimity and  happiness. He went on to say that there has not been another composition like this in last 25000 years in Jain Darshan that raises so much aversion to worldly pleasures.

He explained the concept of ‘Anityata’ (the ephemeral nature of materialistic world), and at the same time he exalted  the greatness of ‘Nityata’ (eternity).  He said the composition starts with highlighting  the immense depth of Jinvani.  It goes on to show how the wealth, prosperity achievements, material happiness are all transitory in nature. A person should try to understand and recognise his own nature, realise the fact that the body and soul are two distinctly different entities. When the nature of the soul is understood and when the true wisdom is achieved will the person find the true and eternal happiness.
Smt Dipti Desai recited the slokas in Sanskrit whilst Shree Amit Thakar provided the musical background..

Shree Kayavanbhai Sheth on behalf of Shashan Samrat Bhavan thanked everyone in making the inauguration program a successful one. He also suggested holding such programs monthly as had been requested by many scholars and prominent people in the audience who were interested in the regular presentation of Jain philosophical concepts.
