Lord Khan of Burnley, Minister for Faith, has launched Jains in the UK, a new publication produced by the Institute of Jainology (IOJ) in collaboration with the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Jainism. Speaking at the launch, Lord Khan also expressed his support for the Jain community’s campaign to secure formal recognition as a distinct religion in the 2031 Census.

The publication, authored by Samir Juthani, is intended to assist public authorities in understanding the Jain community across England and Wales. Drawing on data from the 2021 Census, it outlines the community’s key characteristics and provides valuable insights into their needs and practices. Topics covered include education, employment, and health, alongside an overview of Jain beliefs, worship, festivals, dietary customs, and clothing requirements.

This report is a vital resource for local authorities, schools, healthcare providers, and other organisations seeking to offer informed and appropriate services to the Jain community.
