Sunday November 11th was a historic day. It marked the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, the Great War in which 1.3m Indians fought alongside soldiers from the commonwealth and a large number sacrificed their lives
Many Jain community leaders participate annually in local Remembrance Day services. However for Jains, this was also a historic day. After several years of campaigning along with the Jain All-Party Parliamentary Group, we were finally given a place at the Cenotaph alongside the other faiths and the Royal family.
Bells were rung and a two minutes silence was observed from exactly 11.11 am. Brahid Shanti was recited at Jain Derasars throughout the country following the silence observation.
Many OneJAIN organisations were also participating in Remembrance Day celebrations local to their area.
Shri Nemubhai Chandaria, Chair of the Institute of Jainology represented OneJAIN to pay respect, on behalf of the U.K. Jain community, to the significant number of men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live today in a more peaceful world.
The Cenotaph ceremony was followed by a remembrance service at Westminster Abbey in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen.
