| Shrimad Rajchandra Centennial CelebrationsRaj Saubhag Satsang Mandal of Sayla and IoJ together set up an International Advisory Committee of Jains to celebrate the centenaial year of the passing away of Shrimad Rajchandra in year 2000. The committee had members from every country where Jains reside, and all firkas were equally represented. The program was launched at the Sanmukhanand Hall in Mumbai. It brought together all Jain sects at national and international level to mark the event. Altogether over three thousand Jains attended the program.
IoJ helped to coordinate the international celebration of this event in Europe, USA, Africa and the Far East. In all, over 50,000 people world wide had seen a film on Shrimad’s life. Shrimad was one of the greatest exponents of Jain philosophy of modern times; he spread Lord Mahavira’s message in simple and understandable language. His life and his writings have been described in detail on several web sites (LINK) but a brief comment made by Mahatma Gandhiji sometimes described as the father of modern India, in his autobiography will suffice here to define his personality: ‘I cannot describe the lasting influence which Shrimad Rajchandrabhai has had on my life. For many years I have been in search of a righteous person in India, but I have not yet met anyone who can compare to Shri Rajchandrabhai. Amongst European philosophers, I consider Tolstoy to be of the top class and Ruskin the second order scholar. However, the experience of Rajchandrabhai was superior to both of theirs.’
